Calcium Disodium EDTA is a derivative of Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid.
Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid is a Sequestering / Chelating Agent. EDTA is a synthetic amino acid. It is widely known as EDTA. It is a white powder. EDTA Acid is insoluble in water. Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of EDTA

The compound was first prepared in 1935 by Ferdinand Munz, who prepared the compound from Ethylenediamine (EDA) and Monochloroacetic acid. Today, EDTA is synthesized on an industrial scale from Ethylenediamine (EDA), Formaldehyde, and Sodium cyanide (NaCN). The sodium salt of EDTA forms first in both processes and then can be converted to the acid form.

Uses / Application of Calcium Disodium EDTA

Calcium Disodium EDTA is a Sequestering Agent.
Metal Ions like Iron, Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, Manganese, etc., are often present in food & beverages products. These metal ions react with food products & they initiate & catalyze oxidation of flavor, odour & colour. Calcium Disodium EDTA binds with free metal ions & make them ineffective, which helps to stop degradation of food product & in increasing the shelf life of the food product. In Vitamin C fortified beverages, uncontrolled metal ions can interact with Vitamin C to destabilize flavors, detoriate colors, reduce shelf life & degrade benzoate. Calcium Disodium EDTA prevents these effects while preserving the nutrient value of Vitamin C. Calcium Disodium EDTA preserves anti oxidant qualities in Vitamin A, D & E. Calcium Disodium EDTA can also help maintain Vitamin B Potency.
